We all have our drugs. Stuff that consumes your time, energy or health. Three things that a guy should always guard closely. This is a perfect example of how understanding doesn't lead to application. We all understand the harms of our 'drugs'. Yet, we cannot control it.
This article will not be a generalized one and will be focused on gaming only. However, everyone can probably derive something important from it.
Personally, I have had many phases of my life where I was gaming a lot. And the other times, I wasn't playing games at all. That's how scary it is for me. If I start playing, I will play for long hours, filling whatever time I have left with whatever it is I am currently playing. There is no moderation for me. It's all a deep spiral. And the periods where I grew the most are when I stopped playing. Sitting on the computer or mobile, playing something, drains all the energy from you. I guess it makes sense too. Your body assumes you had all those experiences ( which you saw on screen) and due to the nature of the games, your body will assume you have already done more than a person should in one day. So you become lazy, unmotivated . You have no energy left for the important stuff in life.
Once I stop playing, I have loads of time which I can spend on a variety of tasks. Meaningful tasks: reading, building, going to the park. It's not just about the time. I also have more energy. My mind feels better. So why do I play so much. Because I don't have a mission right now. No struggle that would consume my time. That would satisfy the burning fire. We need something to look forward to or we end up feeling lazy. I get too free and have to find some way to pass the time. I play a little and end up playing too much, the whole day.
